Lovebytes is an annual international festival of digital art in Sheffield UK, bringing together a vast array of creative work from the frontiers of music, film, art and design.

The theme for Lovebytes 2007 is 'process', focussing on the creative and technical processes involved in making art with computers and digital systems.

Lovebytes 2007 showcases the work of some of the most exciting and innovative artists from around the world and celebrates Sheffield's own burgeoning creative culture. The festival includes installations, live performances, artist's talks, workshops, film screenings and exhibitions with a programme of associated events, curated and run by partner organisations across the city. An inspiring range of venues includes the Winter Garden, Sheffield City Library, the Showroom Cinema, the University of Sheffield Students' Union and the Moorlands Centre in Edale.

This week's highlights include a specially commissioned sound installation at Sheffield's Winter Garden (17-18-19 May 6-10pm. Free) entitled Does Music Affect Plants? Wander through the beautiful Winter Garden at dusk and experience an extraordinary environmental artwork as celebrated musician and sound-artist Biosphere turns Europe's largest urban glasshouse into a sonic test chamber.

On Friday another site specific piece commissioned for the festival, 495,63 by Yasunao Tone, transforms a book of Chinese calligraphy into a sonic and visual performance. Drop-in to Sheffield's Central Library between to see this new work from one of the pioneers of sonic art. (18 May open 9-11 pm. Free)
